Urban Meyer,
born 10 July 1964 is an
American college football coach and
former player.
Meyer is originally from
Ohio and one student from the
University of Cincinnati, where he played
college football. He is best known for coaching
Florida Gators to two
BCS National Championship Game victories in
2006 and
2008 seasons.
Meyer was recognized as college football "Coach of the Year" at the University of Utah, as both sports writers and TV commentators. Meyer is a devout Catholic, and on several occasions discussed the head coaching position at the University of Notre Dame, as his "Dream Job" that led to speculation that he would one day want to coach there.
After two seasons at Bowling Green, he took the job in Utah in 2003. Meyer was named the Mountain West Conference coach of the year with a 10-2 record, best ever for a coach's first season in Utah. Meyer has been criticized by some commentators, because 25 of his players have been arrested during his nearly six years as the Gators' coach.
